The Production Setup

Cabinet production is a manufacturing operation, not a craft operation – it runs on systems, not inspiration. The table saw is the center of everything: all panel cutting, all edge banding cuts, all dadoes and rabbets. The table saw has an accurate fence (a Biesemeyer-style aftermarket fence), a dedicated dado stack, and a large extension table to the left for infeed support. A dedicated router table handles edge profiles, cope-and-stick door frame operations, and raised panel routing. A pocket hole jig and screws are the primary joinery method – fast, strong, and repeatable.

Sheet Good Handling

A 4-by-8 sheet of plywood or MDF requires about 20 square feet of clear floor space to handle safely on a table saw. In a 280-square-foot shop, this means careful choreography: one person, one sheet, moving in a planned sequence. The garage door opens during sheet processing so the outfeed end of the panel can extend outside. A rolling sheet goods cart holds the stack of panels and serves as infeed support – the panel slides from the cart onto the saw without lifting.
