The Grinding Station

Leather Work Area

Leather stock hangs rolled on a simple wooden dowel rack. Dyes, finishes, and edge treatment products have their own shelf. The leather area is kept separate from the grinding area to prevent metal dust contaminating the leather surface before dyeing.
Dust and Spark Management
Belt grinding produces metal dust – this is not wood dust and requires different handling. Metal grinding dust is combustible and should not be allowed to accumulate. A dedicated grinder vacuum with a metal-rated filter captures dust at the machine. The shop has a fire extinguisher within arm’s reach of the grinder, rated for metal fires as well as ordinary combustibles. No wood dust or wood finishes are stored near the grinding station.
